Hadrians Challenge – Rules
1. Eligible teams are restricted to one from each of the following groups:
Durham & Teesside
Cumbria
Northumberland & Tyneside
Borders
Dumfries
2. Entry fees are Ł15 per team. Each team is also encouraged to donate prizes. (This is a fun event and it is nice if everyone gets a little something to take home). Rosettes and Trophies are arranged by the ride organiser.
3. Team lists must be presented to the Challenge organiser 30 minutes before the 1st vetting.
4. The rules for the challenge are in line with the organising organisation. Therefore when hosted at Newcastleton SERC rules will apply, when at Hexham EGB rules will apply. E.g at the time of going to press, speed restriction for pleasure rides are 8-11km/hr under SERC and 8-12km/hr under EGB.
5. Each team consists of 4 riders who must be paid up members of EGB or SERC, and must start with a minimum of 2 team members.
6. In a full team, 3 team members must be paid up members of the group they are representing, 1 guest rider is permitted in each team to make up numbers but they must be a member of another eligible group.
7. The team must be made up of the following horses:
One doing the pleasure ride. No qualification restrictions. Horse’s heart rate must be checked at final vetting and recorded on the vet sheet (there is no requirement for the heart rate to be checked at pre-vetting stage).
One horse doing the 32km or 42km Novice (at Hexham) or the 32km (at Newcastleton). Horse must be an EGB Novice Horse and/or not obtained a Bronze Thistle Final under SERC.
One horse doing the 32km or 42km (at Hexham) or the 32km (at Newcastleton). No qualification restrictions.
One horse doing the 51km (at Hexham) or 48km (at Newcastleton). No qualification restrictions other than those required by the body hosting the event.
8. Each rider may only ride one horse.
9. Horses must complete the full distance and pass the final vetting for their results to qualify.
10. Each team must specify on the team entry form the horse they wish to nominate for the lowest final heart rate.
11. At a SERC ride where the heart rate is taken twice at the final vetting of competitive rides, then the 2nd heart rate will be used for the Hadrians Challenge.
12. The winning team will be decided by:
The team with the highest successfully completed mileage.
In the event of a draw:
The team with the lowest combined final heart rate.
In the event that there is still a draw:
The team whose nominated horse has completed the course, passed the vet and has the lowest heart rate.
13. Anyone wishing to dispute the result should first speak to the Hadrians Challenge organiser. If the matter is not resolved satisfactorily the complaint should be made in writing to the Technical Steward for the event.
